Haig Haleblian: the best boss ever

Haig  grew up in the carpet business. In the early 50′s, Haig’s father was on of the most respected carpet retailers in the Chicago area. At age 8, Haig began working weekends at his dad’s store, and by highschool, he was installing carpet. He went to Southern Illinois University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Business.

From the mid-70′s to mid-80′s, Haig worked as a carpet manufacturer’s representative for World Carpet in Dalton, GA, one of the largest carpet mills in the US. He went out on his own to open Midwest Carpet in Crystal Lake. In 1993, he purchased Exceed’s existing site from Wickes Lumber and joined the Carpet One buying co-op. Haig sold Carpet One in 2003 and retired. In 2006, he came out of retirement and opened Exceed Flooring and Surfaces.

Haig married the former Hawley McLean. Today, she is the Senior Designer at Exceed Flooring and Surfaces. He currently chairs the Economic Development Committee of Crystal Lake. His passions include sports cars from the 1950s and 1960s, but his real passion is his business. “This isn’t work. I’m having too much fun,” says Haig.
