Hawley (shown left) is a lifelong Crystal Lake resident and a graduate of Crystal Lake Central High School. She also holds a degree from Ray College of Design in Chicago, where she was awarded the Yal R. Burge Student Award of Merit. After graduation, Hawley worked as a designer for several area interior designers and completed freelance renderings for architects and designers.
Hawley returned to Ray College of Design at their Schaumberg campus as an instructor for nine years in the Interior Design department, where she taught Perspective Drawing and Rendering, Two-Dimensional Design, The History of French Architecture and Furniture, Design Aesthetics, and Materials and Resources.
Soon afterwards, Hawley decided to open Hawleywood Designs, a retail shop specializing in making new furniture objects from older ones as well as custom steel furniture and sculpture, in downtown Crystal Lake. After closing Hawelywood, she took a job as head designer for a Michigan architectural firm, designing and drawing actual plan drawings using CAD, and selecting finishes and materials.
When Hawley returned to Crystal Lake, she married Haig and became a Senior Designer for Exceed Flooring and Surfaces. Her duties include everything from designing entire houses to doing backsplashes and bathrooms.
